Of all the Substitute Teacher Friendly candidates on the Substitute Teacher Voter Guide,
Gregg Solkovits is the single most important person to get elected.
When I became Committee Chair in 1999, Gregg Solkovits was the person from UTLA how took time to explain to me how UTLA works. He is the Area Chair of the
Valley West Area Meetings where the Chapter Chairs (Union Reps) from all the schools meet monthly in the West San Fernando Valley. I continued to learn more about UTLA
at those meetings, and Gregg always encouraged me to speak at the meetings about ways the Chapter Chairs could help Substitute Teachers.
The people on the Substitute Teacher Voter Guide are supportive of Substitute Teachers, however it is only Gregg Solkovits who has taken an active role in
advocating on behalf of Substitute Teachers.
Any time I have needed support on the Board of Directors or the House of Representatives he has been the most vocal supporter.
He was instrumental in getting the Substitute Teacher Newsletter budget passed when he was on the Budget Committee and the Newsletter was a brand new idea
for UTLA.
He was the main person on the UTLA Negotiations Committee who fought to win the best Due Process Rights for Substitute Teachers in the Country.
